Beer-battered Green Beans
Occasionally it’s nice to zest up your preparation of a vegetable. This beer battered technique adds the perfect amount of zest to a simple green bean. It takes approximately 15 minutes to make these green beans. I only did a few green beans at a time because when I tried to fry a larger number they stuck together and were impossible to separate. The beer batter adds a nice background flavor without being overpowering. Fried foods have a bad reputation, but in moderation these beer battered green beans are a nice change.
Ingredients
- 3 cups canola oil for frying
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 12 ounces your favorite amber beer
- 1 pound green beans, washed and patted dry
- 2 pinches salt for extra seasoning
- 2 pinches black pepper for extra seasoning
- ½ cup favorite dip
Preparation Instructions
1. Begin by heating your canola oil in large saucepan on medium to high heat until it reaches a temperature of 350 degrees (using a cooking thermometer). During this time, mix the salt and flour in a large bowl.
2. Whisk in your beer until the dry ingredients are well combined and you have a nice batter consistency.
3. Rinse green beans, dry and cut off ends if desired.
4. Add in your green beans and gently toss and mix until all beans have been coated. You can do this in batches if needed.
5. Gently drop about 3-5 beans in the oil, cooking until they are a light golden brown. These cook fairly quickly and should be ready in just a couple minutes.
6. Remove beans from the hot oil using a slotted spoon and place them onto a plate lined with paper towel, or use a strainer with a plate underneath. Lightly season with salt and pepper. Repeat until all green beans are fried.
