Craighead County’s Chris Damron is a first-generation farmer, an increasingly rare designation these days, as starting a farming operation “from scratch” can be a cost-prohibitive proposition. Damron says that he and his wife, Breanne, took on the challenge because “farming the land was my calling.”
Chris and Breanne’s efforts have paid off, as their farming operation has steadily grown and, this summer, the couple were named winners of the YF&R Achievement Award. The Achievement Award recognizes young farmers and ranchers who have excelled in their farming/ranching operations and exhibited outstanding leadership abilities. The Jonesboro couple farm rice and soybeans and have two children, Reese and Mason. They won $35,000 courtesy of Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Co. and an expense-paid trip to Nashville in January to represent Arkansas at the American Farm Bureau annual conference.
